The first branches of this family tree!
late 1947 early 1948
There is much to be said and done, and since many hands make light work, we are looking for volunteers in a number of areas. One goal is to find places for everyone to stay. So if you are in the area and have space available for cousins, or Aunties & Uncles, please let us know. If you are coming from out of town and don't have a place lined up already (please!) let us know. We don't want anyone to have to stay in a motel unless that is truly his or her preference. If people are bringing tents or campers, there are a number of places for those, too. Either leave a comment on this page or email hiliaandonnie@gmail.com.
Silent Auction! A silent auction will be held to cover costs and it's hoped that every family will donate a treasured item for this purpose. So far, Marie has promised a hand loomed carpet or two and Marsha has been asked to knit something - each of them carries forward a deeply informed, family (and Finnish) tradition in handwork - of extraordinary skill and quality. Any meaningful and treasured item is welcome for the auction. Please email us to let us know what item you are donating so we can make a listing.
July 2nd will be spent at Camp Lahti. The schedule for the day is as follows (subject to modification):
9:00 a.m. - First volunteers arrive to set up.
10:00 - 10:30 - Sign In and continental breakfast
11:00 - Welcome w/ MC and announcements
12:00 - Games and water activities (weather providing): volley ball, horseshoes, croquet, kayaking, swimming,... (suggestions on games or activities anyone?)
1:30 - 2:30 or so - Main meal and program with MC officiating: skits, poems, songs, stories. Prepare to entertain!
3:30 - 6:00 - Games, more water fun, and whatever...
6:00 Picnic supper
7:30 - Bonfire, more stories?, singing and a vesper service
Volunteers needed!!
Cooks (many volunteers will make this easy--split by meal, breakfast, main meal, or picnic meal)
Clean up (again, many hands make light work--breakfast, main meal, picnic meal, general ground clean up)
Life Guards (at least 2 adults at a time, sign up for noon or afternoon playtime)
Auction organizer
Games organizer - coaches?
Sauna starter & keeper
Bonfire starter & keeper
MC or 2
Vesper service leader (if not someone in the family, perhaps a local pastor??)
Performers! For planning purposes, if you are telling a story, sharing a poem, singing a song, doing a skit, etc., it would be helpful to have a list ahead of time. Please post or email your talent to us.
July 3rd & 4th-
To keep the family together on July 3 and 4, it might be a meaningful thing, for as many as are interested, to go to Fort Wilkins, have potluck picnics, hike the Estivant Pines, and so on.
We could fill up the church pews in Tapiola, South Range or ??? on Sunday and then, there is the Lake Linden parade - and to add to the festivities, perhaps a picnic and swim at Agate Beach or McLain would be nice. These plans we can firm up more later. If you have suggestions, please let us know!
Last but certainly not least! We need a headcount! Who all is coming? Email or post names, ages of the kids, and if you're "definitely coming," "trying" or "for sure not able to make it."
Blessings to you!
Grace

Hello my dear family!! I miss all of you! I am Marsha's daughter, Ericka. I am expecting my first baby this June, so depending upon her arrival into this world will dictate as to if we can attend or not. I won't be able to commit to attending or volunteering until I give birth. So I will keep you posted... Sending lots of love!!!
